If your hair is lacking its usual shine and luster, it may be damaged. Hair that is damaged may feel dry, and look limp and lifeless. Severely damaged hair may look and feel like straw. To infuse life into your damaged hair, get regular haircuts and treat your hair to weekly moisturizing treatments. Talk to a doctor before using home remedies if you have allergies or health problems.

Step 1

Treat your hair to a moisturizing olive oil treatment. Beat 2 eggs with a fork, then add 1/2 cup olive oil, says Kori Ellis in an article on beauty website, SheKnows.com. Apply the mixture to dry hair, then wrap your head in a towel. Leave the mixture on for 30 minutes, then rinse it out with cold water.

Step 2

Create your own herbal leave-in conditioner. Place 1 tsp. calendula flowers, 1 tsp. chamomile flowers, 1 tsp. burdock root, 1 tsp. lavender flowers and 1 tsp. rosemary leaves in a pot. Pour 1 pt. of boiling water over the herbs and cover. Allow the mixture to steep for 30 minutes, then strain the herbs out. Add 1 tbsp. vinegar to the liquid, then wait until the mixture cools. Pour the conditioning treatment on the hair immediately after shampooing. Do not rinse the mixture out.

Step 3

Add mayonnaise to your hair for shiny, smooth tresses. Slather your hair with a generous amount of mayonnaise. Cover your head with a shower cap, then wait up to an hour before rinsing the mayonnaise out with cold water.

Step 4

Condition your hair with an avocado treatment. In an article in "Cosmopolitan," product creator Helen Ambrosen recommends avocado to keep hair shiny. Mash up a banana, an avocado, 2 tbsp. olive oil and an egg in a bowl, and mix until the ingredients are smooth. Apply the mixture to dry hair, then leave it on for 10 minutes. Rinse in the shower, then shampoo and condition as you normally would.
