Periodontal disease presents with numerous different issues that come with it such as bad breath, bleeding, and, most notably, pain and soreness. Winning the battle against periodontal disease is much more easily accomplished with the help of a periodontist who can help you with the deeper cleanings and giving you the guidance you need. In the meantime, treating the soreness that comes along with it is of great importance.
Step 1
Brush at least twice daily with a soft bristle brush and floss at least once a day; keeping your mouth clean is the most important step to alleviating the pain. Use an antiseptic mouthwash such as Listerine at least twice a day as well to reach all of the areas that your brush and floss couldn't.
Step 2
Numb your gums with ice cubes as needed to offer temporary relief from the pain. Sucking on small ice cubes can help to keep your mouth from getting dry and keep your gums cold and numb.
Step 3
Dissolve a teaspoon of salt into a cup of warm water and gargle with it to help relieve pain.
Step 4
Add a tablespoon of sea salt to a cup of sage tea and use this as a rinse to soothe your gums and calm inflammation.
Tips and Warnings
- Chewing on guava leaves is known to help stop bleeding in the mouth. Myrrh oil can also be massaged into the gums for the same result.
- If your condition worsens, seek the help of your periodontist immediately.
