To bring home a taste of the adventures encountered while hunting and fishing, video game companies have games that take you around the world in search of animals.

Types

Video games, including hunting and fishing games, come in a variety of playing types. The most common types include computer games, arcade-style games and games for video game consoles such as PlayStation, Nintendo or Xbox. Computer games can be played either online or installed with software onto the computer's hard drive.

Species

Hunting and fishing games focus on many game species. Hunting species from around the world can be hunted on the games, with the most popular species being deer, turkey, elk, moose, waterfowl, African game and bears. Fishing species will commonly include largemouth bass and big game deep sea species such as tuna, marlin or swordfish.

Features

You will setup a hunter or angler profile that keeps track of your performance and score for each round during the game. The performance and score--based on shooting or angling precision and the size of the animal--allows you to choose different equipment, gear, tackle and weapons for each adventure. During each adventure, you can test your hunting or fishing skills in realistic conditions. For example, deer hunting games put you in pursuit of trophy whitetail bucks as you can choose your tree stand, weapon and clothing. Turkey hunts let you choose the spring or fall season along with camouflage and hunting location.

Considerations

If you are interested in a hunting or fishing game, consider a trial version of the game before purchasing the full edition. You can typically download the trial version to your computer or game console for a limited time. Games will often combine hunting and fishing adventures into one game and allow multiple players to play at the same time either as a team or head-to-head. Hooking your game console to the Internet can also allow competition against other players.

Benefits

Benefits of hunting and fishing games are the ability to practice hunting and fishing during the off-season and the opportunity to enjoy some outdoor scenes and animals in the comfort of your own home. You can include the entire family in the game as you travel around the world in pursuit of game species.
