If you are disappointed in the way your face has aged, you need not start looking for a plastic surgeon. There are exercises that can help you combat the signs of aging in your face and neck without resorting to plastic surgery. Facial exercise is an inexpensive way for you to strengthen facial muscles and increase tone for a more youthful appearance. The time commitment for facial exercises is minimal and you can do them in the comfort of your own home.
Neck and Throat
According to the Hindu Website, 10 minutes of daily facial exercise will help you achieve a more youthful appearance. Exercises should be done daily and discussed with your doctor prior to performing. Below are three facial exercises that can be performed while sitting up. When performed daily, these exercises will help to tone the muscles of the neck and throat.
1. Sit erect on a firm chair. Keep spine straight. Tilt your head and look up at the ceiling with your mouth closed. Engage in a chewing motion for a count of 10. Repeat 20 times.
2. Sit erect on a firm chair. Keep your spine straight. Tilt your head back and look up at the ceiling. Keep your lips closed yet relaxed. Start puckering your lips, moving them forward as if kissing a distant object. Hold puckered position for a count of 10. Relax. Bring your head back to its normal position. Repeat 5 times.
3. Sit erect in a firm chair, face forward. While keeping your lips together, separate your teeth by first dropping your jaw, then pushing your jaw forward. Hold position for a count of 10. Return to start position. Repeat 5 times.
Jawline
According to Richard H. Tew, M.D., a Harvard educated general practitioner who also practices alternative medicine, exercise has been found to increase the skin's elastin in the part of the body being exercised. Elastin is a protein that helps to give skin its tone. Dr. Tew projects this same effect could occur with facial exercises. The following exercise helps to improve the jawline by strengthening muscles of the jaw and neck. As muscles increase in tone, the overlying soft tissues have better support. The result is less sagging.
Sit upright with your mouth closed. Clench your teeth, then force the corners of your mouth downward towards your chin. Keep forcing the corners of your mouth down until your neck muscles become taut and stand out. Hold this position while keeping the upper part of your face relaxed. Now bring the chin upwards. This will cause the corners of your mouth to contract towards the center of your face. Hold this position for a count of 10. Repeat 4 very slow movements followed by 8 fast.
Balanced Regimen
No anti-aging regimen would be complete without a balanced diet containing adequate amounts of fruits and vegetables, use of an effective sunscreen, and some moderate exercise for the total body. Discuss all exercise and diet plans with your doctor.
