Fitball exercise balls are a popular stretching, physical therapy and general exercise device. You must keep the Fitball properly inflated to attain the full benefit of its use and to prevent injury. The Fitball was designed so that owners can make adjustments to the amount of air pressure themselves with a standard hand air pump and a few objects lying around the house. Avoid damage to the Fitball by learning the proper inflation procedure.

Step 1

Place the Fitball in a room free of extreme hot or cold temperatures.

Step 2

Check your ball for the maximum diameter of the ball which is given in inches and centimeters.

Step 3

Measure out the diameter of the ball from a wall using a tape measure or other measuring device. Place a solid object, such as a box or chair, at the maximum diameter measurement to use as a guide when inflating the ball.

Step 4

Remove the air plug from the Fitball by sliding a quarter between the plug and the ball and lifting upward. Pull the plug out of the ball once it is lifted. Do not use a sharp object to remove the plug or you risk puncturing the ball.

Step 5

Position the Fitball at the midpoint between the wall and the object you measured out from the wall.

Step 6

Moisten the needle of the air pump with your saliva and insert the needle into the Fitball.

Step 7

Pump up the Fitball until it touches both the wall and the object you measured out from the wall.

Step 8

Remove the air pump needle from the Fitball and quickly insert the plug.

Things You'll Need

  • Tape measure or ruler
  • Box or other easy-to-move object
