Overview

Cakes, pies, cupcakes, cookies, brownies or ice cream...all wonderful treats. Treats are rewarding in moderation however sometimes it can be difficult to rid yourself of a sweet tooth. Instead of wanting to get rid of it, curbing sweet cravings will help you to manage a healthy eating routine. Admittedly difficult, replacing sugary treats with naturally sweet food items is an effective way to do this.

Step 1

Implement a no-sweets-in-home policy by not bringing sweets into your home. Eliminate the convenience of eating sweets by not buying them. If you have to work harder to have sweets by going out to get them when you crave them, it reduces the likelihood that you will have them as often.

Step 2

Drink plenty of water. Sometimes we crave food when we are actually thirsty.

Step 3

Eat healthy foods regularly. When your body is hungry or if your blood sugar is low, you may crave sweets.

Step 4

Replace sweets with healthy foods. For example, if you normally eat cookies or ice cream at night before bed, try eating carrots with peanut butter or oatmeal instead.

Step 5

Replace sweets with an activity. If you are hungry, have a healthy snack. If not, go for a walk to distract yourself from your craving.
