Unwanted facial hair is a problem for many women of different age groups. Hormonal imbalances due to normal aging, pregnancy or medications may cause facial hair to sprout up where you least expect it. Hair growth under the chin, around the jawline or on the upper lip is not uncommon. Clinical treatments for facial hair include laser removal and electrolysis, but several home treatments that you can do yourself are just as effective.

Step 1

Purchase a waxing kit where skincare products are sold and wax your facial hair. Try to find wax that is microwavable for convenience. Melt the wax and apply it to your face with the small spatula included with your kit. Place the cotton strip over top and when it hardens, pull it off. Waxing is thorough, but may be painful. Test the wax on a small area of skin to check for a reaction before you wax your facial hair.

Step 2

Pluck your facial hairs out with tweezers. Heat your face with a damp cloth to open pores, and then pluck each hair out, one at a time. Tweezing facial hair is effective, but is also time consuming and can lead to ingrown hairs.

Step 3

Make your own homemade sugaring solution to remove facial hair. Mix together 1/4 cup water, 1/4 cup lemon juice and 2 cups sugar and heat in a pan. Remove from the heat when the mixture is bubbling and of smooth consistency. Add a few sprinkles of cornstarch to absorb the oils in your skin, and then spread it over your facial hair in a thin layer in the same direction the hairs grow. Press cotton strips onto the mix and then wait for it to cool, pulling it off in the opposite direction of hair growth.

Step 4

Purchase a bleaching cream at your pharmacy and bleach your facial hair. While not a removal technique, bleaching will reduce the visibility of the hair. Bleaching can make the hairs fragile and brittle so they will break off on their own.

Do not use bleaching cream anywhere around your eyes, and perform a 24-hour patch test before you use it on your face. Apply it to a small area of your skin and wait 24 hours to see if there is any reaction.

Tips and Warnings

  • Do not shave your unwanted facial hair. It will grow back as stubble. Attempt only one home facial hair removal technique at a time until you find one that works best for you.
