If you've injured your ankle or a part of your foot or you need to hold a dressing in place, you need to know how to properly wrap your foot with a length of bandage. Proper wrapping technique will stay put and offer the support such wrapping is designed for. Learning to wrap your foot properly takes some practice but can be accomplished fairly easily.

Step 1

Grasp the rolled length of wrapping in your dominant hand and extend the foot that needs to be wrapped in front of you.

Step 2

Place the loose end of the wrap on the top of the foot, with the end slightly draping over one side.

Step 3

Hold the loose end of the wrap on the top of your foot with one hand while passing the roll around the bottom of the foot, wrapping two times, according to Drugs.com. Make sure that you're overlapping the bandage or wrap as you pass it around the foot. This will help anchor the bandage in place.

Step 4

Pass the wrap one more time around the foot, this time placing it closer to the ankle joint. As you bring the wrap from under the foot this time, wrap it around your ankle in whichever direction you're passing the wrap, suggests Cigna, a health-care provider resource. If you're rolling clockwise, you'll pass the wrap on the right side of the ankle; counterclockwise, you'll pass it on the left.

Step 5

Wrap the bandage behind the ankle, but not over the heel. Then bring the wrap around to the front of the ankle, wrapping it around the arch of the foot again.

Step 6

Repeat this process one more time or several more times if your bandage length is long enough. Fasten the end of the wrap with a metal clip or tuck it firmly into the top of the wrapping.
