Few things are as coveted as a long, lustrous mane of hair. Unfortunately, there are no reliable ways to make your hair grow faster than genetically predetermined. The good news is that there are things you can do to help encourage your hair to consistently grow at its maximum genetic rate.

Massage Your Scalp

Massaging the scalp helps stimulate hair follicles and improve the condition of your hair. According to the web site Daily Glow, scalp massages also boost circulation to the scalp, which can help your hair naturally grow at its fullest potential.

Begin at the temples when massaging your scalp. Apply a bit of sesame oil to the pads of your fingers and use small circular motions to gently move the scalp. Slowly work your way toward the nape of your neck, keeping the pressure and intensity of the scalp massage light. Massage your scalp at least three times per week for longer, healthier hair.

Trim the Ends

Trimming your ends may sound counterproductive, but it's important to start with fresh, healthy ends if you want to grow your hair longer. According to the website Long Locks, healthy ends need to be trimmed less often, giving you a chance to retain a greater amount of length. Purchase a pair of scissors to use specifically for hair trimming.

Trim the ends in small sections until all damage is removed. Removing all of the damaged ends may mean that you have to sacrifice several inches in length, but it will be worth it as you actively grow out your hair. Apply a leave-in conditioner and light oil to the ends to help maintain their health.

Healthy Lifestyle Choices

According to Daily Glow, the lifestyle choices you make can determine how fast or slow your hair grows. Stress and smoking are two common things that can affect hair growth. Unhealthy sleep patterns and dietary habits can inhibit optimal hair growth as well. Do your best to improve unhealthy lifestyle habits if you want to improve your hair growth rate. Leafy, green vegetables rich in protein, iron, zinc and B vitamins will also give your hair the boost it needs to grow to its fullest potential.
