Turmeric is a spice that is commonly used in Indian curries. It grows in India, China and other Asian countries, and has been used for centuries in the natural healing system from India, called Ayurveda, according to the California College of Aryuveda. Turmeric is a powerful anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and disinfectant, and is used as treatment in several different ways, including burning it and inhaling the smoke. Clears Congestion

Congestion due to chronic colds or cough is relieved by inhaling smoke from burning turmeric. When breathed in through each nostril individually, the smoke will release large amounts of mucous from your sinus cavity. Consult your physician before you attempt to treat any ailment with turmeric.

Relieves Sinusitis

Sinusitis refers to inflammation in the inner lining of the sinuses. Turmeric's properties as an anti-inflammatory will reduce the swelling, and ease your discomfort. For sinusitis, dip a dry rhizome in coconut or neem oil and burn it. Inhale the smoke it produces through each nostril. A rhizome is the fleshy and thick underground stem part of a turmeric plant.
