Lamotrigine is an oral prescription medication that is sold under the brand name Lamictal. It is used on its or in combination with other drugs to help control seizures in individuals with epilepsy. Drugs.com notes the lamotrigine is not a cure for epileptic seizures and will help to suppress seizures while the patient continues to take it. According to the MayoClinic.com, furosemide is also an oral prescription drug that is used to treat high blood pressure and belongs to a family of medications called water pills or loop diuretics. This medication is prescribed to help treat edema or fluid retention that is caused by diseases such as kidney disease, liver disease, congestive heart failure and others. Like other medications, both lamotrigine and furosemide can cause side effects.

Furosemide General Effects

Normal side effects can occur when first beginning dosages of furosemide and usually subside on their own. The MayoClinic.com lists some of general sides effects such as diarrhea, constipation, headache, dizziness, numbness and blurred vision. A physician should be advised of any side effects that persist for more than a few days.

Furosemide Rare Effects

Furosemide can cause several side effects including an allergic reaction. Drugs.com advises that patients seek immediate medical treatment for allergy symptoms such as hives, swelling of the face, tongue or throat and trouble breathing after taking this medication. Other side effects that should also be reported to a physician include dry mouth, nausea, vomiting, fast or uneven heartbeat, muscle weakness or pain, easy bruising or bleeding, skin rash, stomach pain and jaundice.

Lamotrigine Side Effects

According the the MayoClinic.com lamotrigine may cause side effects in some individuals. These include general effects such as nausea, abdominal pain, constipation, dizziness, blurry pain, fatigue, headache, insomnia, runny nose, sleepiness, sore throat and a decrease in coordination.

Lamotrigine Effects in Children

Lamotrigine is also used to control seizures in children and can cause varying side effects in children than in adults. Drugs.com mentions some of these such as eczema, bronchitis, swelling, infection, indigestion, light sensitivity, nervousness, lymph node problems, tooth problems and dizziness.
