How to Make Dusky Skin Look Beautiful

People with darker skin complications may suffer from dusky or ashy skin. The skin has a matte gray appearance. The skin appears this way due to increased dryness---especially prone in the winter months. Several at home treatments are available to remove the ashy look from the skin and return the skin to a healthy glow.

Step 1

Take lukewarm showers. Avoid taking long hot showers. The warm water can pull moisture from the skin, giving it the ashy appearance. Use a moisturizing soap or body wash containing vitamins D or E, as well as aloe.

Step 2

Mix several drops of baby oil into a spray bottle mixed with water. Lightly mist all over body. Lightly towel off by patting skin dry.

Step 3

Exfoliate skin using a sugar scrub. Mix one cup sugar with 2 tablespoons almond oil. Add essential oils for fragrance, if desired. Use on the body with a loofah brush to remove dead skin cells. Over-the-counter treatments are also available. Look for the key words exfoliate or body scrub on products.

Step 4

Apply a thick lotion within five minutes of stepping out of the shower. Shea butter or lotions containing aloe are recommended. Avoid lotions that contain alcohol as that ingredient will continue to dry out skin.

Things You'll Need

  • Moisturizing soap
  • Loofah brush
  • Baby oil
  • Lotion containing aloe or shea butter
  • Sugar
  • Almond oil
  • Essential oils (optional)
