Wrinkles, fine lines and crow's feet form as skin loses collagen, a protein that helps skin retain moisture. As collagen decreases, wrinkles increase. While wrinkles are a natural sign of aging, overexposure to sunlight, smoking, stress, poor nutrition and heredity also contribute to their formation. Conventional medicine has various methods to reduce wrinkles. However, wrinkle creams, dermabrasion, laser treatment, collagen fillers, botox, chemical peels and face-lifts are costly procedures not usually covered by health insurance. If you are looking for quick and inexpensive ways to reduce fine lines, alternative beauty care experts have a wealth of wrinkle removal tips.
Misting
As you age, skin's ability to hold moisture decreases. According to the book "Alternative Cures," California-based esthetician Joni Loughran recommends misting---spraying the face with a fine mist of water---to decrease wrinkles. Loughran states, "This technique works extremely well. Just as dried fruit plumps up and softens when it's soaked, so misting can help soften and plump the surface of dried, wrinkled skin, reducing fine lines."
For best results Loughran suggests misting after applying a moisturizer containing humectants. She advises, "Humectants attract and hold water, so if you mist while they're on your face, your skin will continue to receive moisture throughout the day."
Pour 10 drops of lavender essential oil into a water-filled, pump spray bottle that emits a very fine mist. Shake well. Mist your face a minimum of three times a day.
Face Mask
According to FreeMakeupTips.com, a facial mask composed of rice powder, milk and rosewater tightens skin and smooths out wrinkles. To make this mask, combine one cup of rice powder with just enough milk and rosewater to form a paste. Smooth the mask over your face. With as little facial movements as possible, allow the mask to dry for 20 to 30 minutes. Splash clean with a cold water rinse.
Tape
A new spa treatment enjoyed by celebrities involves pulling sagging skin back into the hairline and taping it into place. The procedure starts with an exfoliating facial cleanse to slough off dead skin cells. Then the client lies down, and the taping begins. According to CelebrityBeautyTipGoldmine.com, the treatment creates a marked improvement in the appearance of facial wrinkles.
A variation of the spa treatment can be performed at home. Lie on your back with your hair pulled off your face. Pull your skin back and up around your eyes, and use scotch tape to hold it in position. Arrange your hair to cover the tape.
