For centuries, certain Eastern cultures have believed that certain herbs help remove toxins from the bloodstream. While there is not enough evidence to conclude the full health benefits or risks of using herbs to detoxify, some people find herbal remedies very effective to improve mood, health and energy levels. Certain experts believe that herbal detoxification can remove impurities from the blood, liver and kidneys, flushing the system so the body functions more efficiently. The University of Maryland Medical Center has published information about the complementary health benefits of red clover, burdock, milk thistle, dandelion and chamomile.

Red Clover

Experience the effects of reduced fluid retention and improved blood circulation with red clover. Ingest red clover to take advantage of a high nutrient content including purifying vitamin C, niacin and potassium. Take red clover for a diet high in isoflavones, a chemical that may help ease symptoms of menopause. Research the effects of red clover and isoflavones and talk to your doctor before starting an herbal regime.

Burdock

Observe the blood purifying power of burdock as a diuretic and an aid in curing sore throats and colds. According to University of Maryland Medical Center, burdock contains natural dietary fiber, which helps to cleanse and detoxify the intestines. Visit a doctor to confirm the healing, detoxifying power of burdock before using it to treat an illness or any medical condition.

Milk Thistle

Use milk thistle as a complementary herbal detoxifier when targeting the liver and gallbladder. While there is no concrete medical evidence that milk thistle is able to detoxify the body, the herb has been used for centuries to cleanse the body system and the organs that absorb toxins. Study research conclusions and speak to a doctor before you decide if milk thistle is a good addition to your treatment plan.

Dandelion

Reconsider the benefits of those pesky dandelions in the yard. Ingest dandelion to reap the benefits of a host of vitamins and minerals that add to the health of the immune system including vitamin A and potassium. According to University of Maryland Medical Center, dandelion is used globally to treat kidney disease and skin problems that may be caused by toxins in the body. Talk to a doctor before incorporating dandelion into your diet.

Chamomile

Drink chamomile tea to treat the symptoms of toxin buildup, including the sicknesses that result from toxin buildup such as colds, sore throats, acne and inflammatory bowel disease. Consult with a doctor and use chamomile only as a complementary treatment.
