Playing a full round of golf in the summer sun can be a sweaty business. Your leather golf gloves, though certainly not as expensive as your clubs, cost enough that you'll want to take care of them properly between tee times. Cleaning leather can be tricky, because prolonged exposure to water can sometimes cause the material to harden. Washing your golf gloves by hand can extend their life significantly.
Step 1
Dust off your leather golf gloves after you've finished playing for the day. Depending on your golfing conditions, you might find sand, powdery dirt or grass stuck to your gloves. Remove all solid matter that is not ground into the surface of the gloves.
Step 2
Moisten a soft cloth with water and sponge off your leather gloves to remove dirt that does not brush off easily. Blot the gloves dry with a dry cloth.
Step 3
Fill a mixing bowl with warm water and a small squirt of mild dish detergent. This soapy mixture can help remove more serious stains on your gloves. Don't submerge the gloves for too long, but brief exposure to water will not hurt the leather, according to Golf Link.
Step 4
Place your golf gloves into the bowl of dish detergent and massage the dirt out of the leather with your fingers. You can also use a clean, unused toothbrush to loosen hard-to-remove stains.
Step 5
Rinse the gloves in clear water, making sure you remove all the soap. Gently squeeze excess water from the gloves.
Step 6
Put on your wet golf gloves to reset the leather to its proper shape. Remove the gloves from your hands and air-dry on a towel.
