Disc golf is a sport that incorporates the same scoring elements as golf, but is played with Frisbee-like discs instead of clubs and a golf ball. Players use different techniques for different types of shots, depending on their distance from the target and obstacles that may be in the way of a shot. Learning different Frisbee golf techniques can help you become a better player and master even the hardest holes on your local disc golf course.
Sidearm Drive
Step 1
Hold the disc in between your thumb and index finger, with the top of the disc facing your thumb, in order to start a sidearm throw. Bring your arm back behind you so that the disc is facing up.
Step 2
Take several running steps, turn your side opposite the disc toward the target and whip your arm back toward the front of your body.
Step 3
Flick your wrist toward the target, and release the disc just as your hand passes your body. Follow through by pivoting on your front leg and allowing your body to spin toward the target.
Backhand Drive
Step 1
Point the same side of your body as your throwing arm toward the target. Grip the disc with the edge of it resting in the palm of your hand and your thumb on the top of the disc, as you would normally hold a Frisbee.
Step 2
Wrap your throwing hand around your upper body. Take several running steps toward your target, keeping your side facing it.
Step 3
Plant your front foot and shift your weight toward the target. At the same time, whip your arm toward the target. Keep your wrist cocked toward your body.
Step 4
Uncock your wrist and release the disc just before your arm is pointing at the target. Follow through by allowing your body to pivot around on your planted leg.
Putt
Step 1
Stand with the disc in the same hand and position as the backhand throw. Stand facing the target with the same side as your throwing hand.
Step 2
Perform the same actions as the backhand throw, but instead of whipping your arm around, gradually move it toward the target. Create just enough velocity to toss the disc at the target.
Step 3
Raise your arm slightly before you release the putter, to create loft underneath the disc. Follow through by holding your arm up and toward the target, and lifting your back foot off the ground.
