A facial is designed to keep skin healthy and nourished and is a relaxing spa treatment. Getting a facial keeps skin soft and hydrated and can delay the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. However, a professional facial often costs quite a bit. You can create a professional facial at home with all the skin benefits buy without the big price tag. If you have any skin conditions, it is best to talk to a dermatologist before doing a home facial.

Step 1

Cleanse your face. Look for a product designed for your skin type for the best results. Using a mild formula is best for your skin. You can wash your face with your hands or a washcloth. Make sure to wash off any makeup or products you put on your skin. Rinse it well.

Step 2

Exfoliate. Using an exfoliator helps clear dead skin from the surface of your face. An exfoliator is especially helpful on the oiliest parts of your face. Rub the exfoliator gently in circles all over your face and neck, and then rinse it off.

Step 3

Steam your face. Steaming opens pores and makes skin softer. You can do this by filling the bathroom sink with hot water and leaning over it with a towel over your head. Stay there for 2 or 3 minutes. Another way to steam is to place a washcloth in the hot water and then lay it across your face for several minutes. A professional facialist will often remove blackheads or pop pimples during this step. If you choose to do this, be sure your hands are clean to prevent clogged pores.

Step 4

Use a mask. Choose a facial mask that is designed for your skin type and apply it on your face, avoiding your eye area. Leave the mask in place according to product directions, usually 10 to 20 minutes. When time is up, rinse the mask off well, and dry your face.

Step 5

Moisturize. Using moisturizer keeps your skin hydrated and healthy. Use a moisturizer with an SPF of at least 15 to prevent sun damage. Gently rub the lotion all over your face and neck.
