According to "Hair and Hair Care," hair can develop a greenish hue after exposure to chlorinated water, such as that of a swimming pool, due to the hard metals found in the water. Swimmers who enjoy spending time in the pool but are not fond of their green hair can remove the green color at home with a few household items.
Step 1
Rinse your hair with vinegar as soon as you notice that it has turned green. According to "The Science of Hair Care," vinegar loosens the metals from the cuticle of the hair that cause it to look green.
Step 2
Apply lemon juice to your hair and then put on a shower cap for about 30 minutes. According to "Hair Care: An Illustrated Dermatologic Handbook," the lemon juice will neutralize the greenish hue of the hair.
Step 3
Shampoo and condition your hair with a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. According to "The Science of Hair Care," while vinegar and lemon juice are effective and removing the green color from hair, they wick moisture from the hair. Shampooing and conditioning with moisturizing products will replenish the hair's moisture.
