During the course of a typical round, a pair of golf shoes may be exposed to grass, sand, mud and water. Breaking in a pair of golf shoes takes time. Once you have them just how you like them, take care of them so they will last. It is wise to clean your golf shoes at least every month, or more often if they have been through a particularly dirty round.
Step 1
Brush the bottoms of the shoes with a stiff-bristled brush to remove any pieces of dirt and debris. The twisting motion of your feet during a golf swing can lodge dirt into the spikes.
Step 2
Unscrew the spikes. Purchase a small spike removal tool from your golf retailer if one wasn't included with your shoes.
Step 3
Wipe down the sides, top and bottom of the outside of your shoes with a cloth and warm soapy water. Rinse any soap off with a clean, wet cloth. Dry with a clean towel.
Step 4
Apply shoe polish if you desire. Polish is not a necessity but will keep your shoes looking new. Standard shoe polish suited to the material of your shoe will suffice. Apply a waterproofing spray, which can be purchased at many golf retailers, on the outside of the shoes.
Step 5
Re-attach your golf spikes. If they are worn or chipped, consider replacing them with a new set. Change the shoelaces if they are frayed.
