Facial masks are suitable for all skin types. A wide variety of facial masks, such as clay masks, peel-off masks and wax-based masks provide options to cleanse, remove oil, reduce pore size, moisturize, soften, refresh and improve blood flow to the skin on your face. Facial masks are for weekly or bi-weekly rather than daily use.

Step 1

Wash and dry your face following your normal skin care routine.

Step 2

Apply the facial mask. The method generally used to apply a facial mask consists of spreading the mask in a thick, even layer over your face, avoiding the area around your eyes.

Step 3

Wait 10 to 15 minutes, or the length of time recommended in your facial mask instructions. Make yourself comfortable and keep your face still.

Step 4

Rinse your face with lukewarm water to loosen and remove the facial mask, or peel off the mask if it is the peel-off variety, then cleanse your face following your normal skin care routine to remove any remaining traces of the mask.

Step 5

Apply a moisturizing liquid, cream or lotion appropriate for your skin type.

Tips and Warnings

  • To determine the type of facial mask best for you, consider your skin type. According to Daily Glow, clay and mud facial masks are best for normal to oily skin and function to remove excess oil, tighten the skin surface and reduce the size of skin pores. Exfoliating facial masks most often contain fruit extracts that help dissolve oil, dead skin cells and dirt from skin pores. Exfoliating masks are best suited for normal to oily skin types. Moisturizing facial masks are suitable for all skin types to help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
