Even with the slimmest, most toned body, you might still appear overweight if you have a puffy or chubby face. Facial fat tends to be stubborn and difficult to control, particularly if it is hereditary in nature. One way to lose facial fat quickly is to opt for cosmetic surgery, but many people can't readily afford this approach. For those who want to contour their face in short order without surgery, there are some helpful natural steps you can take.
Step 1
Diet for overall weight loss. According to personal trainer Jim Karas in Good Housekeeping magazine, the loss of even a few pounds tends to show up quite clearly on your face. Karas recommends cutting 250 calories and burning 250 extra calories per day.
Step 2
Step away from the salt shaker. Water-weight bloat can account for up to an extra 5 lbs., Karas says, and this water retention often shows dramatically in your face. If you reduce your sodium intake, you'll retain less water and lose some of your facial puffiness.
Step 3
Drink water--or eat it. Many people know that drinking eight glasses of water a day can help with weight loss in various ways. Getting your daily hydration signals to your body that it doesn't need to hoard its existing fluids in the form of bloat. If you can't quite manage that water quota, compensate by eating three servings of fruits and three servings of vegetables daily, Karas says. They're not only high in water, but they also deliver plenty of fiber.
Step 4
Practice facial yoga. According to Annelise Hagen, author of "The Yoga Face," in the New York Daily News, you can apply yoga poses to facial exercise as you would your body. Hagen recommends a daily "do-it-yourself facelift." Puff your cheeks to capacity with air, then switch the air back and forth from cheek to cheek. Continue this pattern until you are out of breath, then repeat three to four times. This strengthens cheek muscles and can keep flab at bay.
