How to Detox Naturally to Lose Weight

Detoxing is an effective first step in preparing to lose weight. While there are many products that can aid in detoxing or cleansing, some do contain chemicals that can alter your body's normal digestive process. There are ways to start a detox naturally with items you probably already have at home.

Step 1

Start by increasing your water intake. Recommended intake is eight 8-ounce glasses for a total of 64 ounces a day. Try to drink four additional glasses for a total of 96 ounces (approximately 3 liters).

Step 2

Adjust your diet. Eliminate refined foods (i.e. fats and sugars) and even meat if possible for a few days. It takes longer for the body to break down protein from meat. Eliminating meat for even two to three days will speed up the detox process. Eat as many fruits and vegetables as you can, particularly green ones. Green fruits and vegetables contain chlorophyll and other detox properties.

Step 3

Incorporate green tea or warm lemon water into your diet. Green tea and lemon are both diuretics. If you're a coffee drinker, try to drink these instead.

Step 4

Take natural herbal supplements such as cascara sagrada or acidopholus, which both aid in digestion.

Step 5

Take a warm bath with Epsom salt or apple cider vinegar, or sit in a sauna. The salt, vinegar and steam are all cleansing agents that help remove toxins from the body.
