Helping your boyfriend quit smoking may be the best thing you could ever do for him and yourself. Convincing him to kick the habit could be difficult because the nicotine in cigarettes is an addicting drug, but try to persuade him to do it. Tell your boyfriend he must quit because you want to spend the rest of your life with him. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, "Smoking causes 1 out of every 5 deaths in the United States."

Step 1

Help your boyfriend quit smoking by letting him know you love him and you do not want him to run the risk of getting lung cancer or heart disease. Also explain to him the smoke you inhale when he smokes can give you cancer, heart disease and respiratory problems. Make him understand that quitting smoking would be beneficial to both of you and that if he loves you, he will at least make an effort to quit smoking.

Step 2

Let your boyfriend know how much better his life will be once he stops smoking. Tell him he will not have to worry about getting sick and dying at an early age because he smokes. Also, tell him he will have more energy and more money once he quits.

Encourage him to save the money he usually spends on cigarettes so he can buy himself a new computer, or something else he always wanted to buy but never had the money for. You can also tell him his skin will not age as fast if he stops smoking, and you will be able to enjoy the smell of his cologne since the smoke from the cigarettes will no longer be on his clothes.

Step 3

Help reduce the stress in your boyfriend's life. According to Smokefree.gov, "Stress is a reason why many people smoke." If you see your boyfriend working hard at something that is stressing him out, suggest he take a break from what he is doing and go for a walk with him, or give him a neck and back rub. You can also rub the soles of his feet to relax him.

If he feels like having a cigarette to take the edge off of his stress, make him a cup of calming chamomile tea. Also buy him a supply of sugarless gum. When he gets the urge to smoke, he can chew on a stick of gum.

Step 4

Suggest your boyfriend see a doctor if you find he is having a hard time dealing with the withdrawal symptoms associated with smoking cessation. A doctor will be able to recommend a nicotine cessation product your boyfriend can take to ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.
