There are many elements of the golf swing that will determine whether the shot is good or not. It is essential to have proper form in your swing because too much can go wrong. Before you swing the club, it is equally important to have your positioning in order. According to Golf Link, some of the most important fundamentals start before you start swinging the golf club.
Step 1
Place your ball on the tee and stand a few yards behind the ball and look to see where you want it to end up, according to Golf Link. Before you position yourself, you should know what the target is.
Step 2
Walk toward the ball and place the club head behind the ball so it is square to the desired line of flight.
Step 3
Place your feet shoulder-width apart. The ball should be in front of you lined up with the inside of your left foot. According to ABC of Golf, stretch your arms on the club over the ball so it forms a V shape.
Step 4
Keep good posture. According to ABC of Golf, your back should be fairly straight, knees slightly bent, chin tucked and your weight should be equally divided between the balls and heels of your feet.
Tips and Warnings
- When you move to get in position behind the golf ball, always step in with your left foot first. According to Free Golf Lessons, no matter what club you are going to use, always move the left foot in position so it is in line with your armpit. This will make moving your right foot in position that much easier.
- Do not take practice shots once you have put your body in position to hit the ball. According to Golf Link, take a couple of swings before you move in position because once you line up your shot, you should hit the ball without having moved from the position you took.
