Natural Cures for High Cholesterol

Cholesterol is a natural substance which is found in the body. There are two different types of cholesterol, LDL and HDL. The difference between these two is while HDL helps the body by fixing arteries, LDL cholesterol can harm the body by clogging arteries and putting you at risk for a heart attack. Before you look at medication to lower the LDL cholesterol, there are several natural remedies you can use to help with this process.

Liver Cleanse

The major producer of cholesterol in the body is the liver. Cutting out high-cholesterol foods will only reduce the level of cholesterol in the body by 25 percent. Therefore, it is very important to make sure your liver is working properly and efficiently.
To cleanse your liver naturally, choose a day where you can fast over night, be near a bathroom and get plenty of water. On that day, stay away from as much fat as you can. At 2 p.m., stop eating. At 6 and 8 p.m., drink 3/4 cup of water with 1 tbsp. of Epson Salt. At 10 p.m., juice one organic grapefruit and mix it with 1/2 cup of olive oil. Drink it with four L-orthine capsules and go to bed. At 6 and 8 a.m. the next day, take the Epsom Salt solution once again. After 10 a.m., you can eat light meals. Make sure you only try this after doing a colon and kidney cleanse.

Exercise

Aerobic exercise is wonderful for your heart and helps detoxify your body by helping to break down LDL cholesterol levels. Get 30 minutes of aerobic exercises (walking, running or swimming) broken down into smaller segments each day (such as 15-minute increments).

Food

Since your liver creates much of the cholesterol in your body, just eating foods with low cholesterol will not make a huge dent in your LDL levels. The key here is to eat foods which help the body naturally lower cholesterol levels. Several foods that can be added to the diet which will help lower LDL cholesterol (and raise the good HDL cholesterol) are garlic, flax, cold-water fish, soluble fiber, soy, onions, extra virgin olive oil, orange juice (750ml per day), red wine, cayenne pepper and, in moderation, eggs. Many of these foods have natural vitamins which help speed the process of lowering cholesterol. An alternate option is to take vitamin supplements which will give you the same effect.
