Flossing is an important part of dental hygiene. Most dentists recommend that you floss at least once per day, for the health of both your teeth and your gums. Flossing can be difficult, however, because of dental appliances (such as braces, bridges, implants and permanent retainers) blocking the gums, or from teeth being too close together. Floss threaders allow for navigation around these obstacles.
Step 1
Pull out approximately 16 inches of dental floss, and detach it from the container.
Step 2
Put between 4 and 5 inches of the floss piece through the loop of the threader.
Step 3
Hold the short end of the floss against the loop (to keep it from slipping out of the threader).
Step 4
Pass the floss threader under or over any dental appliances (whichever puts it closer to the gum), such as braces, and between the teeth.
Step 5
Remove the floss from the threader, take the threader out of the mouth, and floss normally.
Step 6
Repeat for the other teeth.
