Spa wraps are designed to help remove impurities, increase circulation, reduce cellulite, aid in weight loss and relieve muscle pain. Getting a body wrap at your favorite spa can be expensive. Fortunately, you can make a spa wrap at home for a fraction of the cost. Heated herbal wraps open your skin's pores to aid in detoxifying your body while absorbing beneficial minerals. Select herbs for your spa wrap such as ginger to stimulate circulation and rose hips to nourish dry skin.
Step 1
Add 21/2 qts. of water into a 3-qt. pot. Bring the water to a rolling boil.
Step 2
Remove the water from the heat. Add 3 tbs. fresh herbs to the water. Place a lid on top of the pot and allow the herbs to steep for 15 minutes.
Step 3
Cover a chaise lounge with one thermal blanket. Cover the blanket with a plastic sheet. Another relaxing option is to place a foam pool lounger into the bathtub.
Step 4
Cover a large bowl with a section of cheese cloth. Carefully pour the herb water through the cheesecloth and into the bowl. The cloth is a strainer for the herb particles. Discard the herbs and the cheesecloth. Pour the herb-infused water back into the 3-qt. pot.
Step 5
Place 8-inch-wide bandages into the herb-infused water to soak. Cover the pot. Allow the bandages to absorb the herb water for at least 10 minutes.
Step 6
Check the water temperature. It should be warm, but not too hot for your skin. Remove one bandage. Wring it out. Wrap the bandage around the desired area of your body. Do not wrap the bandages any tighter than a knee sock.
Step 7
Lie down on top of the plastic sheet. Cover yourself with another plastic sheet and the second thermal blanket. Relax for at least one hour.
Tips and Warnings
- There are several ways you can create a spa-like atmosphere during your wrap. Remove all distractions, play soft music and light candles. Apply a facial moisturizer and cover your eyes with cucumber slices. If you prefer to use regular blankets in lieu of thermal blankets, heat them in the dryer and remove them just prior to reclining with your wrap.
