If you want long, healthy and vibrant hair and you may not want to go to extreme measures to get it. You may have damaged your hair through the use of heated styling appliances or over-processing with chemical treatments. According to author Lisa Akbari in her book "Every Woman's Guide to Beautiful Hair at Any Age," your hair is constantly growing but you may not notice it because of breakage or damage. Follow a few simple steps to get your hair into shape and help it grow long quickly and naturally.

Step 1

Trim your hair. According to author Tanushree Podder in her book "Beauty Solutions," trimming your hair will get rid of split ends. Once the split ends are removed, your hair will start to grow faster naturally.

Step 2

Condition your hair regularly using a deep-penetrating and moisturizing conditioner. According to Akbari, this will help to repair and rebuild your hair. After shampooing, towel dry hair and apply the conditioner. Cover your hair with plastic wrap and wait at least 10 minutes before rinsing.

Step 3

Massage olive oil into your hair twice weekly at night if your hair is dry or damaged. According to Podder, olive oil improves the condition of your hair, but it will take a few months for this treatment to take effect. The nutrients in olive oil will be absorbed into the hair shaft, helping it to become stronger and healthier over time.

Step 4

Remove pollutants from your hair and scalp. According to Akbari, environmental pollutants such as smoke and smog can create negative buildup on your scalp, inhibiting new hair growth by polluting the hair follicles. You should shampoo your hair as needed or at least every three days to keep it clean and free of pollutants.

Step 5

Brush your hair with a brush that is suitable for your hair type. Using the proper brush prevents breakage and damage. According to Podder, brushing your hair also stimulates hair growth by stimulating blood flow to the scalp.

Step 6

Avoid heated styling appliances, especially during the period of growing your hair out. Using heat on your hair causes damage to the hair shaft. Heated appliances such as blow dryers, curling irons or flat irons should not be used on damaged hair. If you must use these appliances, be sure to use a spray-on product containing silicone designed to protect your hair from the heat.
