Aviane 28 is a medication in a class of drugs known as combined hormonal contraceptives. Aviane is used for the prevention of pregnancy. Breast Pain and Tenderness
Aviane 28 may cause some women to experience breast pain and tenderness. These side effects may be temporary and diminish as the body gets used to the hormones in Aviane. Women should continue monthly self-breast examination and annual breast screenings as recommended by their physician. Severe breast pain, change in breast tissue, nipple discharge or the development of a breast lump should be promptly reported to a physician.
Stomach Discomfort
Women taking Aviane 28 may experience stomach discomfort. Symptoms can include stomach pain, mild nausea, vomiting and bloating. Nausea and vomiting may be helped by taking the pill in the evening or at bedtime, explains Planned Parenthood. If these side effects persist or worsen they should be brought to the attention of a health care provider.
Breakthrough Bleeding and Spotting
Women who take oral contraceptives may experience breakthrough bleeding and spotting. Such side effects are usually temporary and resolve within a few months. Breakthrough bleeding and spotting that persists should be reported to a physician. A change in pill or dosage may be warranted to alleviate these effects.
Serious Side Effects
In rare cases, oral contraceptives such as Aviane 28 may cause serious side effects. Women older than 35 who smoke may be at an increased risk of blood clots, stroke or heart attack, says Drugs.com. Women with certain heart disorders, a history of breast or uterine cancer, migraine headaches with aura, and liver disease should not take combined hormonal contraceptives. Women should be thoroughly screened prior to taking Aviane 28 to ensure that they are a good candidate for oral contraceptive use. Warning signs and symptoms of a severe reaction should be explained to each patient prior to taking Aviane.
