Synonymous with debauchery and revelry, Halloween in Las Vegas can be a wild experience. But, Halloween can mean more than lots of candy, crazy parties and costumes. Health and fitness conscious individuals and families looking to avoid a sugar high can find activities and events to attend in the Las Vegas area for Halloween.
Halloween Run/Walks
Those who decide to indulge in a little Halloween candy might want to try a charity run/walk during Halloween in Las Vegas to help you burn off some of those calories. The Easter Seals of Southern Nevada sponsors an annual Great Pumpkin Run, where runners and walkers participate in the 5K race in costume, according to the Easter Seals website. Open to all ages and fitness levels, the run/walk travels through Woodlawn Cemetery near Las Vegas' Cashman Field and ends with a Halloween after-party.
Pumpkin Carving
An activity geared to both children and adults, pumpkin carving offers a Halloween activity where everyone can use their hands. Several Clark County community and senior centers host pumpkin carving events during the Halloween season, including the Paradise Community Center and the West Flamingo Active Adult Center. Past events included carving kits for each participant, carving workshops and prizes for the best carvings, according to the "Las Vegas Sun." The West Flamingo Center event brought together kids and grandparents for an all-ages pumpkin carving contest.
Pet Events
The furry family members can also participate in Halloween activities in Las Vegas. Events, such as Hallo-Wiener and Doggie Howl and Wine, allow family pets to get in on the Halloween fun. Created as a fundraiser for the Las Vegas Hot-Diggity Dachshund Club, Hallo-Wiener features dog races, costume contests and belly-rub and kissing matches, states a "Las Vegas Weekly" article. For all other breeds of dogs, The District at Green Valley Ranch Shopping Center hosts Doggie Howl and Wine with a dog costume contest and dog treat trick-or-treating.
Corn Maze
Always popular around Halloween, corn mazes not only get participants outside, but keep them active and having fun trying to find a way through the maze. Corn mazes may seem out of place in Las Vegas, but less than an hour outside the Strip, thrill-seekers can experience the Glendale Haunted Corn Maze. Located north of Las Vegas, The Glendale Haunted Corn Maze features a haunted corn maze at night and a non-haunted version during the day.
Bonnie Springs Ghost Town
During the rest of the year, Bonnie Springs serves as an unassuming replica mining town. But come Halloween, Bonnie Springs turns into Bonnie Screams, a terrifying, haunted ghost town, according to the Hysteria City website. For younger guests, daytime activities include a haunted train ride, shooting gallery, Halloween beer parlor, spooky candy shop and creepy bird house. At night, the haunted ghost town comes alive with a haunted mine, scary school house, blood mill and a ghost town tour. The walking tours and haunted areas are sure to keep your legs active and heart pumping with fear.
