Women who suspect they are pregnant often buy a home pregnancy test to find out. The Mayo Clinic says that most of these pregnancy tests work by placing the stick in the urine stream for 5 to 10 seconds. After a couple minutes, the test shows a line, color change, plus sign or words that give positive test results. If this doesn't occur, the results are negative. Many reliable pregnancy tests are available.
First Response Early Result
According to Consumer Search, the First Response Early Result pregnancy test is the most reliable and can detect a pregnancy on the first day of a missed period 95 percent of the time. This test has also been reported to detect pregnancy before a missed cycle. This is a good option for someone trying to conceive, as it gives early and accurate results. The test is available in one, two or three-strip packages. A two-strip package costs around $12.
Clearblue Easy Digital Pregnancy Test
The Clearblue Easy Digital Pregnancy Test is a little different from other tests. This one displays the words, "pregnant" or "not pregnant" in the digital read out box of the test. The test was designed to help eliminate the chances of misinterpreting the results of the test, as can be the case with tests that show lines or color changes that are often too light to detect, says Consumer Search. A two-test kit costs about $19.
e.p.t +/- Home Pregnancy Test
At about $14 for one strip, Consumer Search recommends the e.p.t +/- Home Pregnancy Test. The test claims to provide results five days before a missed period. Both a traditional test that shows a plus or minus sign and a digital test that says "pregnant" or "not pregnant" are available. This test can be found at most grocery and drug stores. The tests can be purchased in packages of two or three.
