Hang 10 is a classic surfing move where the rider stands on the nose of a surf board with all 10 toes over the edge while riding a wave. This trick requires a lot of control on the part of the rider. To hang ten, you must turn your board almost parallel to the face of the wave. A suction then forms between the bottom of the surf board and the water. This suction anchors the tail of the board in the wave, providing a stable foundation for you to walk out to the nose and hang ten.
Step 1
Remove your ankle leash from the board and leave it on shore. Paddle out and get set. Watch for your wave, paddle hard to meet it, pop up on your board and drop into the wave.
Step 2
Settling into your cruise, turn the nose of your board so it is more parallel to the face of the wave. Position the tail of the board in the wave behind you and the nose of the board slightly out of the wave.
Step 3
Step out from your stance toward the board nose. Feel for the stability of the board as you work toward the nose. If you begin to nose down, lean into the wave slightly to create more lift.
Step 4
Work your way to the edge of the nose, step over step. Place your forward foot on the edge of the nose. Balance yourself and bring your other foot forward to the nose. Continue to judge the stability of the board as you hang 10. Bring the nose into the wave for more weight and suction on the back end of the board or away from the wave if you start to stall.
