Las Vegas lures in travelers from around the world with its glitz from the lights, and sounds of the casinos and surrounding attractions. Gambling is not the only activity for tourists visiting Las Vegas to enjoy. For those that want to get away from the "one armed bandits" and spend some time enjoying the scenic beauty of Las Vegas and it's surrounding countryside, different outdoor activities are available to participate in.
Take to Sky
Companies that operate out of the airports surrounding Las Vegas offer a variety of ways to see the city. You can head up into the skies in an airplane or a helicopter for a tour from thousands of feet above the Las Vegas Strip. For the more adventurous traveler, you can skydive out of the airplane or enjoy a hang glider ride.
Hiking
Take a walk on one of the hiking trails around Lake Mead viewing the large lake just outside of Las Vegas. You can also explore the rock formations in Red Rock Canyon as you hike or bike through the canyon, enjoying the natural beauty of the area. To see the power of mother nature, take a hike at the Hoover Dam, where you can witness the power of the water as it is released.
Biking
Biking can be done throughout Las Vegas, including on the Las Vegas Strip. Keep in mind that bikes must observe all traffic laws when being driven on the streets of Las Vegas. Don't get too distracted by the casinos and other sites of the city as you get your exercise. Watch out for traffic and pedestrians.
Winter Sports
Take advantage of the mountains that surround Las Vegas by participating in winter sports. Head away from the crowds of the casinos and enjoy the rush of the wind as you ski or snowboard down one of the slopes surrounding the city. If you are looking for a less adventurous activity, ride an inflatable snow tube down a track at one of the mountain resort destinations surrounding Las Vegas.
Hit the Road
Take your turn behind the wheel of a NASCAR race car at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Not only will you be trained to drive the car at speeds exceeding 175 miles per hour, but you'll be able to pass other cars on the race track just like you are in a real NASCAR race. Don't forget the opportunity to take home a souvenir by smiling as you cross the finish line as your photo will be taken for you.
