Parasites are organisms living inside a host. Parasites harm humans in many ways. They consume your food and nutrients, damage your cells and tissues, and produce toxic wastes that can make you sick. About 50 percent of Americans are infected with at least one type of parasite, says AllergyEscape.com. Parasites can live in the colon, intestines, blood, brain, liver or kidneys. The symptoms of parasite infection include diarrhea or foul-smelling stool, rumbling in the stomach that is unrelated to hunger, chest pain, coughing, fever, weight loss, anemia, constant hunger, and itching around the nose, ears and anus, especially at night. If you suffer from such symptoms, it is possible that you have parasites.

Step 1

Make an appointment with a doctor. When making the appointment, let the doctor know that you suspect you have parasites. He may ask you to bring a stool sample to his office. Your doctor can confirm from blood and stool samples that you indeed suffer from parasites. It is also beneficial to find out what kind of parasites you suffer from because treatments vary depending on the parasite. Ask the doctor to give you a prescription for antiparasitic drugs if you wish to treat the parasites this way. Some patients choose to use herbal treatments for their parasites.

Step 2

Cleanse your colon if you are suffering from parasites in your intestines. You may want to fast four to six days prior to the colon cleaning to maximize the results of this treatment. You may have to repeat the colon cleaning for several months to get the best results. You can safely clean your colon approximately once a month.

Step 3

Eat a well-balanced diet that contains plenty of fiber because it can remove some of the worms from the intestines. Foods high in fiber include fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds. Do not eat sugar or fat because parasites thrive on this kind of food. Avoid dairy products as well for the same reason. Because parasites are consuming part of your food, it is vital to take a daily multivitamin to get some of the lost nutrition back.

Step 4

Change your bed sheets, towels and clothing daily while you are being treated for the parasites and treat your home for parasite eggs as well.

Tips and Warnings

  • All family members and others living in the same house and even family pets should be treated for parasites simultaneously even if they do not show any symptoms. Take precautions so that you will not be infected by the parasites again. For example, wash your hands carefully, especially after using the bathroom, and do not eat raw or undercooked fish or meat, wash your vegetables with care and wear gloves when gardening.
  • Pregnant women should not handle cat litter because some parasites such as Toxoplasma gondii can be particularly dangerous for the fetus. Remember to de-worm your pets regularly because some of the parasites they may carry can be transmitted to humans.

Things You'll Need

  • Multivitamins
  • High-fiber foods
  • Prescription for antiparasitic drugs (optional)
