Antidepressants are given to improve the mood, appetite, concentration levels, and the quality of sleep of the individual. Constipation

Loss of appetite and nausea may also occur. Additionally, the American Academy of Family Physicians notes that weight loss or weight gain may be seen as a side-effect, depending on the class of antidepressant taken.
Blurred Vision and Other Effects
According to the American Academy of Family Physicians, blurred vision is a side effect of antidepressants. Other side effects of these medications include an increase in heart rate and cholesterol levels. Anxiety and nervousness also may occur. Individuals often report having headaches and feeling tired. Lack of sleep may occur during the first two weeks of taking some antidepressants. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, some people also experience excessive sweating at night. Sexual problems are another side effect of antidepressants. Individuals may also feel agitated.
