The creamy flesh of avocados, while delicious in dips, salads and sandwiches, also forms the basis for a moisturizing facial. Purdue University Department of Horticulture reports that avocados are rich in vitamins A, B, G and E, as well as amino acids. Avocado oil is a popular ingredient in soaps, lotions and facial creams. You can make an avocado face mask at home to help moisturize your skin.
Step 1
Wash your face with a gentle cleanser and pat dry with a towel.
Step 2
Cut an avocado in half. Remove the pit from the center, then peel and mash the flesh. Use a fork to mash the flesh in a bowl until it forms a thick paste.
Step 3
Add a tablespoon of honey to the avocado. The honey isn't absolutely necessary, but it will add a little stickiness to help the avocado adhere to your face, and honey is also moisturizing.
Step 4
Smooth the avocado mask over your face. Avoid getting any of the substance in your eyes. Relax and leave the mask in place for 20 minutes.
Step 5
Rinse all of the mask off with warm water, followed by a cool water rinse to help close pores. Pat your face dry with a towel.
Tips and Warnings
- You can add olive oil, an egg or lemon juice to the avocado to make different face masks, or use the avocado by itself.
