Once you've conquered the "assembly required" challenge, managing your child's high chair is a breeze, right? Well, maybe not. Putting away baby equipment can be just as confusing--and sometimes even more so--than setting it up. Whether the high chair is being stored for an extended period of time or you just want to free up some space between meals, folding it up is less of a battle when you're armed with instructions.

Step 1

Follow the manufacturer's instructions whenever possible, as these provide specific details unique to your particular high chair. Missing instructions can be found at the manufacturer's website. You'll need to know either the type of high chair or the model number in order to obtain instructions.

Step 2

If you're unsure what type of high chair you have, the model number is printed on a white sticker and attached somewhere on the body or frame of the chair. Search for the sticker and then write down the number. Go to the Product Instructions page at the Graco website and search for your particular model. Instructions are in pdf format and can be viewed online or printed.

Step 3

Graco high chairs share some common features. Inspect the legs of the high chair to determine their folding capabilities. Certain types of Graco high chairs, like the Classic Wood or the All In One Blossom, have limited or no folding feature. Full-size, folding high chairs have legs with hinges or another type of movable joint. The hinges in a folding travel high chair are located at the base of the seat, in the back corners.

Step 4

Folding high chairs have locking mechanisms to keep them from collapsing. Locking devices on Graco high chairs vary depending on the model. For example, the Contempo and Meal Time models have buttons. The Tea Time has rocker clips. Inspect your high chair and locate the locking devices. Common locations are on the sides of the legs, seat and tray.

Step 5

Support the high chair while disengaging the locking mechanisms and then slowly fold. It may be less awkward if you lay the high chair over onto its side while folding it. You need to remove the tray before folding up some Graco high chairs, as the tray can impede movement. Other high chairs are meant to be folded with the tray in place. Once folded, the high chair is ready for storage.
