Aloe vera gel is often applied topically to burns and wounds to promote healing. Inside each leaf of an aloe vera plant is a filling of clear gel. SacredEarth.com reports that although commercial aloe gels are okay, nothing beats fresh gel taken directly from the plant. Proper storage of raw aloe vera gel will extend the shelf life and keep it available when needed.
Step 1
Harvest 60 ml of aloe vera gel from plant leaves. Cut an outer leaf from the plant. Extract the leaf close to the soil. Lean the leaf vertically in a container with the open end down and allow the sap the drain for 30 minutes. Lay the leaf out on a cutting board and slice through the sides to separate the front from the back. The gel sits as one solid piece that fills the interior of the leaf. You should be able to pick it up and place the gel into a glass mixing bowl.
Step 2
Place six vitamin E capsules on a cutting board and gently slice off one tip of each of them. Squeeze the cut capsule over the bowl.
Step 3
Mix the two ingredients thoroughly in the bowl with a spoon. Scrap out the mixture into a dark-colored jar or lidded storage container.
Step 4
Place the aloe vera gel mixture in the refrigerator until ready to use.
