Skimboarding is a popular ocean water sport that requires a mixture of speed, balance and technique. Once you've practiced riding the skimboard into the ocean, you're ready to learn some tricks. One of the basic skimboarding tricks is an ollie, which is essentially jumping the skimboard. Skimboarding ollies are similar to skateboarding ollies in technique.

Step 1

Start skimboarding as you normally would by running toward the ocean, throwing the skimboard on the ground in front of you with the nose facing the ocean and running onto the board. Learn how to skimboard before you try to learn tricks, such as the ollie.

Step 2

Ride the skimboard toward the approaching wave with your weight on your back foot.

Step 3

Press down hard on the back of the skimboard with your back foot just before you reach the wave. Slide your front foot forward, and lift up with your back leg. Pressing down on the back of the skimboard raises the nose into the air, while sliding your foot forward evens out the board so you can land flat. Lifting with your back leg allows the back of the skimboard to rise off the water.

Step 4

Land the skimboard evenly on the water, and bend your knees to absorb the shock of landing. Keep your weight on your back foot to avoid falling forward when you land. Positioning your body so that your weight is on your back foot allows the skimboard to continue to move over the water when you land. Placing your weight on your front foot or centering your weight could result in the nose going underwater, pitching you forward off the skimboard.
