Put some kick in your child's swimming adventures with a set of swim fins. Whether they're used for paddling around the local pool or jetting ahead of opponents in a swimming competition, a set of flippers is bound to heighten water fun. Swim fins boost the efficiency of the kicking motion, propelling swimmers through the water faster. They also improve swimming form, helping kids maintain a horizontal, fish-like position. Step 1
Purchase small blades with blunt, rounded ends that are easy to maneuver, if your child's age and experience level falls into the beginner category. Opt for a split flipper slit into two smaller sections if your child is an experienced swimmer looking to improve his speed. Select long, large blades if you are introducing your child to snorkeling or scuba diving.

Select a full-foot pocket, which covers the foot like a slipper, if the swim fins are for one child and you're concerned about the fins staying on the child's feet. Locate an open-heel design that encloses only the front portion of the foot if more than one child will use the fins or if you want a pair that can be adjusted as your child grows.
