The Fort Wilderness Campground and Resort on the Walt Disney World property includes 700 acres of wooded scenery. Fort Wilderness is the largest resort space on Walt Disney World property and allows guest to choose between staying in the campground area or one of the rustic themed cabins.

Campsites

Disney World's Fort Wilderness offers 799 guest campsites to accommodate tents or small, pop-up campers, full hookup campers, preferred full hookup campers in highly desired areas and premium sites that accommodate large custom rigs. Camping at Fort Wilderness in October offers cooler evening weather, so guests are able to enjoy the outdoor atmosphere without the hot, humid weather that is common during the summer months.

Cabins

Disney World's Fort Wilderness offers 409 guest cabins that sleep six people. The cabins are excellent for people that enjoy a rustic, outdoor vacation experience, yet do not want to camp in a tent or RV. The cabins include a kitchen area that includes a stove, oven and refrigerator, and includes cooking utensils, pans and serving items. There is also a grill located outside each cabin for use by the guests, which is optimal during the cooler October evening hours. This allows you to cook healthy, low-cost meals while on vacation at Walt Disney World.

Pets

The Fort Wilderness Campground is the only Walt Disney World Resort that has a pet-friendly policy. Pets are welcome to stay at your campsite if you have an air-conditioned camper with solid sides. Even though the temperatures are cooler at Walt Disney World in October, the day temperatures are warm enough and require an air conditioner for comfort. Campers or guests staying in the cabins have access to a pet kennel located in the resort area. Having your pet stay with you during your vacation creates an opportunity to exercise while walking through the scenic campground areas.

Recreation

Relief from the warm daytime temperatures in October is provided by two heated swimming pools located at the Fort Wilderness Resort. Other healthy recreation options include bike rentals to explore the campground and boat rentals to explore the Seven Seas Lagoon. Each night, the Fort Wilderness Campground hosts a campfire with a special guest appearance by Chip 'n Dale. The campground also has a small petting zoo and horseback riding available for those that want to get back to nature.

Transportation

The Fort Wilderness Resort area offers an internal bus service to get from one area to another. Visiting during the desirable October weather allows guests to take advantage of the well-paved roads and trails to walk or bike to their destinations. The campground area design is several loops that make for a comfortable walk to the external Disney World Resort bus system terminal, the main office and store buildings or the boat dock, where transportation to the Magic Kingdom or Monorail system is available.
