Body piercing has become a popular way to wear jewelry and express yourself. Navel piercing places a hole from the inside of the navel to the upper outside. All body piercing requires individual attention. A piecing is a puncture wound that must be cleaned and cared for to allow proper healing. Removing a belly ring for the first time might be difficult and require assistance. Once your piecing ages and heals fully, removing the ring in your navel will take just a few minutes.
Step 1
Wash your hands thoroughly with antibacterial soap and dry with a clean towel.
Step 2
Apply antibacterial soap to a washcloth and clean the piecing site. As you wash around the jewelry, move it with your fingers to loosen any crust that may have developed. Pat the area dry with a towel.
Step 3
Grasp the ring with one hand and turn the ball with the other. The ball at the end of the piece holds it in place and usually sits at the top of your navel. Hold the ball between your fingers and turn it counterclockwise until it comes off.
Step 4
Pull down on the ring and allow it to slide out of the pieced hole.
Tips and Warnings
- Wash the ring with antibacterial soap before storing it. Clean any new jewelry thoroughly with soap before inserting it into place.
- If skin has attached to the jewelry, do not attempt to remove it. Seek help from a piecing shop to remove the ring. Follow the recommendations of the piercing technician for removing your ring. If the skin around the piecing is red and swollen or produces discharge, leave the ring in place and see your doctor immediately.
