MayoClinic.com states that eye bags are increasingly common as you age. The skin and tissue around your eyes weaken and the fat that once supported the eyelids moves under the eyes, causing a puffy appearance.According to Mother Nature.com, puffiness under your eyes can sometimes be linked to the previous day's activities. Salty foods, drinking too much water before bed or staying up until the wee hours of the morning can be the culprits. There are several remedies to choose from to help lessen eye bags.
Step 1
Soak teabags in warm water. Drain the teabags and allow them to set on your eyes for 10-to-15 minutes, three times a week. The natural tannins in teas work in helping reduce the swelling by tighten pores and causing the skin to shrink.
Step 2
Stimulate the circulation under your eyes by splashing cold water on the area. Freezing metal spoons and placing the backs over your eyes each morning also gets the circulation moving under your eyes. Use refrigerated gel eye masks anytime your eyes feel puffy.
Step 3
Place slices of cucumbers over your eyes, the cooling juices of the cucumber helps reduce the swelling under your eyes. Cool potato slices place over your eyes in the morning helps to reduce the swelling as well. Cotton balls soaked in ice cold milk softens the skin as it reduces the swelling around your eyes.
Step 4
Elevate your head while sleeping at night to prevent fluids from accumulating around your eyes. Add extra pillows or raise the head of the bed by placing 6-inch wooden blocks under the bed frame. Always get your full seven to eight hours of sleep.
Step 5
Reduce the intake of water before you go to bed. Take diuretics to help with water retention.
Step 6
Take antihistamines for your allergies. Puffy eyes are a known symptom of allergies.
Step 7
Tap the areas around your eyes lightly with your fingertips. This helps to move the fluids away from the area.
