Acne is an inflammatory and bacterial condition that can produce whiteheads or blackheads on the skin, commonly known as pimples. In the book "Homeopathic Remedies," author Asa Hershoff lists pulsatilla as a homeopathic remedy that may provide an alternative treatment for acne symptoms. Pulsatilla can be found in health food stores, pharmacies and on the Internet as a holistic approach to health. Be sure to consult your health care professional before attempting naturopathic remedies at home.
Origin
Herbs2000.com reports pulsatilla is also known as wind flower, meadow anemone or pasque flower. In 1805, Dr. Samuel Christian Hahnemann first proved pulsatilla as a homeopathic treatment effective for a number of conditions ranging from colds to gynecological complaints. In the book "The Complete Homeopathy Handbook," author Miranda Castro explains that pulsatilla is prepared as a homeopathic by pounding the whole plant and flowers into a pulp. The pulp is mixed with alcohol and left to stand for several days before this tincture is diluted and succussed by vigorously shaking the mixture into the desired potency.
Physical Indications
In the book "Concordant Materia Medica," author Frans Vermeulen reports pulsatilla is indicated for acne with an onset at puberty. Acne that spreads over smooth skin and particularly affects young girls may be responsive to pulsatilla. Acne that is linked to hormone fluctuations during puberty menstruation cycles or pregnancy may be improved with the use of pulsatilla.
Mental Indications
In the book "Discovering Homeopathy," author Dana Ullman explains that homeopathic remedies are linked not just to signs and symptoms but to common personality traits, temperaments or behavioral tendencies. Herbs2000.com reports people who respond best to pulsatilla are typically gentle, sweet-natured individuals whose moods change frequently and rapidly. The person who responds well to pulsatilla may be prone to crying when ill, but is easily consoled with hugs. Common behavior traits are a dislike of stuffy rooms and a preference for fresh air. People with these personality traits may find their acne responds well to pulsatilla.
Other Uses
According to Castro in "The Complete Homeopathy Handbook," pulsatilla may be indicated for a number of conditions in addition to acne. Castro explains it may be indicated for respiratory illness, eye complaints and a number of digestion problems as well as headaches and joint pains. Elixirs.com lists pulsatilla as helpful for a number of gynecological complaints including menstrual difficulties, labor pains and menopause as well as skin complaints such as acne that appear linked to hormonal fluctuations.
Precautions
In "Homeopathic Remedies," Hershoff warns that patience is required during acne flare-ups as homeopathic treatments such as pulsatilla may not work quickly. Hershoff explains that nutritional support, vitamins and elimination of certain foods and toxins may also be required in order to eliminate pimples. Hershoff reports high potencies of pulsatilla may be prescribed by a professional homeopath.
