Sometimes you and your alarm clock have differing opinions about when you should get up. When this happens, or when you're running late in general, there's not always time to complete your full bath and body routine. A quick wash and some clean clothes can get your body fresh, but when there's no time to wash your hair, it can look limp and greasy. Dry shampoos and certain pantry items can deliver in a pinch to freshen up your hair when time is of the essence.
Step 1
Stay undressed or in your pajamas if you're using powdered dry shampoo, baby powder or cornstarch. Move your clothes far out of the way to avoid coating them with white powder. Lay down a towel to keep your floor from becoming a serious slipping hazard.
Step 2
Shake your hair out and run your fingers through it to introduce some air. This will help the dry shampoo coat more hair strands on your initial application and decrease the likelihood that you'll need to spend time on a second application.
Step 3
Use a tablespoon of powdered dry shampoo, according to MSN Beauty and Fashion writer Megan Cahn, or use baby powder or cornstarch in a pinch if you don't have dry shampoo. Rub the powder into your scalp and hair roots. Scrunch your hair and pat your scalp. Leave it in place for a few minutes if you have the time, to help it absorb the most oil possible. If using the spray-on dry shampoo, spray it into the roots and scalp. Don't soak your hair, simply lift and coat it as if you were applying hairspray. Allow it to dry for a few minutes.
Step 4
Stand over your towel and bend over. Shake your hair vigorously, then brush it out to remove the powder, which will take excess oil with it as it falls away.
Step 5
Repeat if your hair still looks greasy.
Step 6
Add a few sprays of leave-in conditioner or blast your hair with a hair dryer if you notice powdery residue that makes you look prematurely gray. The end result should be fresh, clean-looking hair that's ready for your usual styling.
