Certain factors can contribute to hair loss such as age, genetics, prescription drugs and environmental factors. Different products can be used to remedy hair loss and promote hair growth. These types of products are sold over-the-counter so they do not require a prescription. Of course before using over-the-counter products to remedy hair loss, consult with your physician to ensure your hair loss is not a more serious condition such as lupus erythematosus.

Essential Oils

Chamaecyparis obtusa was tested in a hair growth study conducted by the Laboratory of Veterinary Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Chungbuk National University, located in the Republic of China. The results of the study performed concluded that Chamaecyparis obtusa is successful in hair growth. The hair growth study using Chamaecyparis obtusa was tested on shaved mice but had a positive result and is said to work well for those who suffer from baldness or other types of hair loss.

Biotin Shampoo

Shampoo containing biotin or pro-vitamin B shampoo helps promote hair growth, according to the Fitness Magazine website. In addition to promoting hair growth, biotin shampoos also help increase hair volume which gives hair a fuller, thicker appearance. Biotin is a vitamin included in the vitamin B group which is essential for healthy hair, nails and skin. Biotin helps maintain and keep hair healthy while aiding with growth. Not all shampoos contain biotin, so always read the label to make sure your new shampoo contains biotin or pro-vitamin B.

Minoxidill

Minoxidil aids in hair growth, according to the Mayo Clinic. Minoxidill is sold over-the-counter at retail stores, drug stores and pharmacies. The brand name of minoxidil is Rogaine. Minoxidil is sold as a foam or liquid that you apply to your scalp where hair is the thinnest. After applying the medication to your scalp, wash your hands thoroughly to rinse off any medication that may still be on them. It is important that you do not shampoo your hair for four hours after using minoxidil or blow dry your hair, according to the Mayo Clinic. While using minoxidil you may still dye, perm and use relaxers on your hair as long as you do not use minoxidil 24 hours before or after chemical treatments. Should you experience any adverse events such as a rash, skin irritation or an allergic reaction, consult your physician right away.
