GOWalking pedometers are produced by Sportline and used when walking or running. The device clips to the user's waistband and records the number of steps he takes. The GOWalking pedometer operates in a manner similar to other pedometers sold by Sportline. There are three buttons located on the front of the pedometer that control all of the device's functions. The pedometer is simple to operate, but must be configured properly prior to use.

Stride Measurement

Step 1

Mark a starting line with chalk on the sidewalk. Stand with your feet in front of the starting line, then take several steps backwards.

Step 2

Walk or run forward at the same pace you intend to use during your workout. Once one foot crosses the starting line, count off 10 paces. Mark a line next to the toe of your outstretched foot with the chalk after 10 paces.

Step 3

Measure the distance between the starting line and the second chalk mark. Divide the distance by 10 to determine the length of your stride.

Step 4

Press the pedometer's "mode" button until the display indicates that you are in "step" mode. Press the "mode" button again to determine whether the pedometer is set up to display distances in miles or kilometers. To adjust the display setting, hold down the "mode" button for approximately five seconds.

Step 5

Press the pedometer's "mode" button until the display indicates that you are in "distance" mode. Press the "set" button to make the display screen flash.

Step 6

Press the "reset" button to input your stride measurement; each press of the button adds one inch or two centimeters to the stride length setting. Wait five seconds for the pedometer to register your stride measurement and automatically exit the setting mode.

Other Settings

Step 1

Press the "mode" button until the clock appears on the display. Press the "set" button and wait for the display to begin flashing.

Step 2

Press the "reset" button to input the current hour; each press of the button increases the hour count by one. Press "set" to move to the minutes setting; use the "reset" button to input the current minutes.

Step 3

Use the "reset" button" to select "am" or "pm," as appropriate. Press "set" to save your settings.

Step 4

Press the "mode" button until the calorie counter appears on the display. Press the "set" button to input your current weight; each press of the "set" button increases the weight setting by one pound or kilogram. Leave the button untouched until the device saves the settings.

Operation

Step 1

Clip the pedometer onto your waistband. Avoid clipping the pedometer on at an angle.

Step 2

Prepare the pedometer for use by pressing the "reset" button. Begin your running or walking workout.

Step 3

Press the "mode" button to review the distance you traveled, the number of calories you burned and the amount of steps you took. Continue running until you have reached your workout goals.

Step 4

Press the "mode" button and record the final results for use in charting your workout progress. Press the "reset" button to clear any stored data.

Tips and Warnings

  • If you wish to use the pedometer for both running and walking workouts, you must measure and input each type of stride length separately; the pedometer is only capable of storing one measurement at a time.
