Losing weight can be a challenge because it's an issue that needs work every day--as the website Calorie Control Council explains, losing 1 lb. of fat takes a deficit of 3,500 calories. The council notes that consuming 500 fewer calories than you expend each day is effective to set a pace of losing 1 lb. per week. While this can be difficult on your own, a well-designed weight loss program can help you lose weight in a safe and effective manner. Always consult a medical professional before starting a weight loss program.

Weight Watchers

According to the weight-loss website Free Dieting, Weight Watchers is an effective, sustainable workout program with a proven track record. Free Dieting explains that this program is effective because it focuses on both diet and activity to help you lose weight safely and somewhat quickly. Weight Watchers is designed to help you develop a healthy lifestyle so your diet and exercise habits remain consistent and dieting isn't painful. Free Dieting explains that this is an effective program because Weight Watchers offers support and is "one of the best choices you could make."

MediFast

According to the diet review website WeightLossTriumph.com, MediFast is the best weight loss program available and can help you help men and women lose weight safely and quickly. WeightLossTriumph.com also notes that MediFast has been approved by 15,000 doctors since 1980. MediFast claims to allow you to lose weight quickly at first--up to 5 lbs. per week. Afterward, the pace is supposed to drop to about 2 lbs. per week, but your results may vary. WeightLossTriumph.com explains that another advantage to MediFast is that it costs only $9 per day for their pre-prepared meals as of July 2010.

NutriSystem

NutriSystem is another well-known weight loss program that has the endorsement of numerous celebrities, such as Marie Osmond and former NFL quarterback Dan Marino. As NutriSystem's website explains, there are four programs designed to serve individual needs--Basic, Silver, Diabetic and Vegetarian. NutriSystem has plans for men and women and has more than 150 dishes, according to its website. In addition, NutriSystem claims that it is an affordable program and was named a Best Value by SmartMoney Magazine in 2010. The NutriSystem website also has an online community so you can get support from other participants.
