According to "Handbook of Dermatology: A Practical Manual," honey at the proper temperature can safely be used in place of wax for hair removal and is less drying to the skin than traditional waxing products. Cold honey will not effectively work as wax and honey that is too hot could burn skin. Only a few household items and about three hours of time are required to prepare and use honey in place of wax to remove hair.

Step 1

Combine 1 cup honey, 1 cup sugar and the juice of one lemon in an electric cooking pot. According to "Cosmetic Dermatology: Principles and Practice," the sugar and lemon juice allow the honey to better adhere to the hair.

Step 2

Turn the electric pot on to its low setting. Allow the honey mixture to cook for about two hours. The mixture will become thin and easily stirred with a flat wooden stick.

Step 3

Remove the lid from the electric cooking pot and keep it turned on. According to "Braun-Falco's Dermatology," this will allow the honey mixture to cool enough to be safe to apply to your skin.

Step 4

Dip a flat wooden stick into the electric pot and scoop up some of the honey mixture. Carefully test the temperature to the mixture with your finger. The mixture should be warm but not painfully hot. If the temperate is uncomfortably hot, return the mixture to the pot and test again in five minutes.

Step 5

Spread the honey mixture onto the portion of your skin that you would like to wax. The honey mixture should be applied in approximately a 2 inch by 4 inch strip.

Step 6

Apply a strip of cotton fabric to the honey mixture immediately after applying the mixture to your skin. Ensure that the strip is smooth by rubbing it firmly with your hand two to three times.

Step 7

Hold the skin around the cotton fabric taught. Use your other hand to quickly pull off the cotton fabric in the opposite direction as the hair growth. Continue to apply the honey mixture and cotton fabric strips to other areas of your body that you would like to wax until you have achieved satisfactory results.
