Bike Trails in Southern New Jersey

Southern New Jersey visitors and locals keep active and heart healthy with biking through the usual flat terrain. Cycling past historic towns, beaches, farmlands or forests, these scenic rides allows bikers to stop for rest to view the scenery or the local architecture. From short to long trails, southern New Jersey features paved, asphalt, dirt or cinder trails that welcome road, mountain or family bikers of all ages and skill levels.

Cape May County

Historic Cape May occupies the southern tip of New Jersey with plenty of roads to bike. The Cape May Court House Loop is best explored spring through fall with 11.5 miles of easy, flat terrain. Riders coast on paved roads meandering past historic buildings, the Cape May Museum and the Cape May County Park and Zoo.

Belleplain State Forest consists of 40 miles of paved and gravel pathways. This multipurpose trail welcomes mountain and road bikers to travel to beaches, boating facilities and picnic and camping areas.

Cumberland County

The Cumberland County Conquest trail consists of 23.3 miles of road biking. This moderate loop is best cycled spring through fall. You will be riding among New Jersey's largest historic district featuring housing and museum architecture from the 18th century.

This trail starts in Bridgeton, coasting among hills with minimal elevation gain. Although Bridgeton is not a tourist destination, this trail also rides along the Cumberland County farmlands for a country-life experience.

Salem County

This historic town of Salem dates back to early European settlement. The Salem County Sweep is 28.2 miles of paved road riding through Salem's history and countryside. This moderate loop consists of minimal elevation gain and is best cycled spring through fall.

Parvin State Park consists of 8.2 miles of paved trails and is appropriate for family, mountain and road bikers. This forest trail travels to destinations including a nature center, beach, camping and picnic areas. Access to the trail is available from Almond Road.

Atlantic County

The Atlantic County Bikeway is 7.6 miles of asphalt road. This easy, multipurpose trail has three trailhead parking sites accessible from English Creek Avenue, Shore Mall and Atlantic County VoTech School.

Estell Manor Park consists of a 2.2-mile paved trail and 10 miles of gravel and cinder trails that are suitable for recreational biking. This trail leads from Egg Harbor to Corbin City and features playgrounds, campgrounds and a nature center.

Ocean County

Located in southern Ocean County is Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge. The Oceanville New Jersey Road Bike Rides is an 8.5 mile non-paved refuge loop.

This trail is suitable for mountain or all-terrain bikes. The loop is moderately flat and provides riders with the opportunity to view more than 250 species of birds that are located in the refuge. Coasting along marshlands and bays, riders also can see the Atlantic City skyline.
